This summer we visited The Royal International Air Tattoo 2006 at RAF FAIRFORD (UK) and for us it was one of the best editions of the last 5 years. A great selection of military aircrafts, a perfect sunny weather and some rarities made RIAT 2006 the highlight of UK Airshow season.
The flying display favourites surely were the Russian Mig-29OVT, which made incredible manouvers for its thrust vectoring engines, the Swiss F/A-18 Hornet, the MV-22 Osprey on its first appearence in UK and the US Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet.
Many other displays delighted the crowd with stunning passes. We cannot avoid to mention the Eurofighter Typhoon display presented by the Royal Air Force with the T1 (double-seater) version and by the Spanish Air Force with the single-seater version.
2006 saw the end of the glorious Canberra activity and for the occasion the RAF showed a great display of a special color tailed Canberra.
The USAF presented the F-15C demo and the Heritage flight with a colorful P-51 Mustang, as well as the "usual" B-1B and B-52 passes. Some other RAF displays (including the Hurricane, Spitfire and Lancaster) some fast jet demos (F-16, L-159, Mirage 2000,...), the Italian Aermacchi M346 trainer first appearence, and display teams from Spain, Switzerland, Jordania and the Red Arrows completed the display programme.
Some special flypasts were arranged for the 2 show days: Patrulla Aguila + Eurofighter Typhoon, Red Arrows + special color VC-10, and Patrouille Suisse + PC-21.
